Team Developer 6.0 Unveiled – Joining the .NET Family

At the European Unify Developers Conferences, held last week, Unify unveiled and demonstrated the product plans and features of Team Developer 6.0 .NET. Using Team Developer 6.0, customers can fully leverage their existing investments into TD applications on the .NET platform.

The new IL compiler of Team Developer 6.0 will allow you to create true .NET Desktop and Browser applications and will give you new ways to use and leverage the .NET framework, including full backward compatibility for Win32 applications. Creating Team Developer .NET applications is as easy as selecting one of the many new .NET target build types from the Build Settings dialog.

Attendees at the DevCons were impressed as to how easy it was to compile, build and run applications for .NET Desktop, .NET WPF Desktop and .NET WPF Browser. At DevCon, one single application file was shown to run as a Win32 application, a .NET Desktop application, a .NET WPF Desktop application and a .NET WPF Browser application. Most impressive were the WPF Browser apps, where the TD application runs in a browser window including MDI windows.

What Customers Have to Say About Team Developer 5.2

The Olympia Bobrun St. Moritz – Celerina (Switzerland) is the oldest bob run in the world. In 1998/99 a client-server application was developed in TD/SQLWindows connecting to a central database. The following years the application was modified and continuously adjusted to actual needs.

The first try (in summer 2008) to upgrade to Team Developer 5.1 was not crowned with success and even more, there was the thought to change the development tool.

With TD 5.1/SP6 it was given a last try. The helpful migration seminar of MD Consulting allowed the update in only one hour!

“I can certainly say that I will not downgrade to older versions of TD, nor will I change the tool. With the experiences recently made I’m pleased again to work with Team Developer. In the meantime I’ve upgraded the application successfully to version 5.2. I believe that I am on the right track again.”

Unify EMEA DevCon Highlights: First official presentation of Team Developer 6.0

We are delighted to say that EMEA DevCon exceeded not only our goals and expectations but also positively surprised attendees with the showcase of TD 6.0. With the European venues in Stockholm and Düsseldorf as well as London and Finland earlier this year, Unify welcomed more than 220 attendees from 30 different nations.

The EMEA DevCon main conference was held on Monday and Tuesday with three different tracks on the entire Unify product portfolio and an optional third day hands-on training course on Team Developer 5.2 and SQLBase 11.5.

This year’s DevCon highlight was the first presentation of Team Developer 6.0, which clearly exceeded most of the expectations of the attendees. This year welcomed TD customers to the world of .NET with proof and sustainability! Without a doubt Team Developer 6.0 is the most significant release in the Company’s history.

Building the foundation for TD 6.0, DevCon also featured sessions on upgrading to TD 5.2, showing customers the new features and functionality and ease of upgrading.

Unify Q Automatic Database Configuration

The soon to be available end-user query, reporting and data-management tool, Q, uses new and powerful database connectivity options to provide a seamless user experience when connecting to any type of database. Unify Q users do not need to be sql.ini experts to connect to SQLBase or other databases. Q allows finding possible database connections available on a machine. To do so, it scans the installed ODBC datasources, Oracle databases, etc. Easy to use connection dialogs allow users to choose a target database, provide username and password and then do a test connection to verify the settings. When the desired settings are made, they are stored and are immediately available for use in Q to create queries, reports and much more.

The screenshot shows the Configure Connections dialog for Oracle databases. The listbox to the right shows the choice of Oracle connections available on that machine.

New Q connection features are available for Team Developer 5.2 applications. Developers can use the new function SqlListConnections() to retrieve a list of available databases for a specified database brand. Team Developer applications can then create a connection to that database without touching sql.ini or restarting the application. The system variable SqlDatabase can be overloaded with a connection string to create ad-hoc database connections. Search for SqlDatabase in TD’s built-in HTML help to see how the overloaded SqlDatabase variable needs to look like. Also see the new functions SqlGetConnectionString() and SqlWriteConnectionString() on how to save connections to sql.ini.

New Emergency Support Offering

For customers with mission-critical applications, Unify now offers the option for Emergency Support.  This would be an add-on to current Standard or Enterprise Support agreements for after-hours support calls for one primary contact and offers a response time of 30 minutes.  For pricing or more information on this new offering, please contact your Unify representative or email info@unify.com.
