Realease – Converting Forms to IBM DB2

Oracle Forms Modernization to Java and DB2

Realease offers either a product or services to convert Oracle Forms applications to Java running in a DB2 environment. The product uses an automated process that greatly reduces time and cost attributed to manual conversion, and conversion risks are significantly lowered with far less potential for human error.

Using an automated tool, the product Realease converts existing Oracle Forms and PL/SQL applications to open and standards based technologies such as Java, XML and browser based solutions. The product will optionally convert the PL/SQL within the database to EJB Session Beans and Bean managed entity beans or to standard Java classes. The Forms themselves are converted to XML based displays that run within the Java based interface. The product performs this function with a very limited amount of operator intervention.

With Realease, not only is the legacy screen layout designed with Oracle Forms converted but all of the associated supporting code; menus, libraries, PL/SQL procedural code, built-in functions, and stored procedures can be automatically converted. The conversion process generates entirely standalone, portable Java code.

The product converts a like-for-like behavior and then, using the generally more robust features of the new development environment, Java, focuses on new features for the application where necessary. One significant benefit of this methodology is that testing can be a much more controlled phase and the expected outcome is matched to the existing outcome.

Using Realease and the new compatibility features of DB2 allows companies to modernize and quickly enable their Oracle Forms to work with DB2 and avoid paying high licensing costs of the Oracle Forms and Oracle database. DB2's proven automated administration features, deep compression, and industry-leading performance directly help you lower the cost of data and improve service levels. In addition, the tight intergration of DB2 and WebSphere can also generate significant cost savings over other application server options. Application developers and administrators can leverage their existing skills and apply them on DB2, further reducing the TCO of their database and Forms environment.
