Composer Customers
Read the stories of a sampling of our Composer for Lotus Notes customers
A large financial institution based in the Midwest U.S.
This customer had a long-term corporate IT strategy to align and standardize onto Microsoft platform.
They moved to Microsoft Exchange for email and needed to also move their Notes applications.
Requirements included minimal end user impact and a desired timeframe to complete the migration project.
After an assessment of their Lotus Notes applications and infrastructure, it was determined that almost
two-thirds of the applications inventoried needed to be migrated. This included a large percentage of complex,
mission critical apps as well as other simple custom applications. The customer also wanted the flexibility
to leverage SharePoint for the complex applications while still maintaining “Like-for-Like” migration to ease
end-user adoption. With Composer, the customer was able to meet these objectives.
A global travel service provider with thousands of customers worldwide instituted a corporate directive to
align and standardize on the Microsoft platform. During a recent acquisition, the company being acquired
had a significant Lotus Notes infrastructure.
This customer needed to be able to move their business critical applications to the Microsoft platform and
turn off the Lotus Notes Servers. They required rapid adoption of the Microsoft application platform and a
process that would have minimal to no impact or disruption to their end-user community.
Working with Unify, the customer was able to effectively identify the migration path and the applications
to be moved. Post migration, the customer now maintains the new .NET applications themselves in their
Microsoft infrastructure.
Because the customer’s applications maintained a “Like for Like” user experience, there was no disruption
to the customer’s business or end users. Most importantly, the customer was able to successfully turn off
their Notes servers. This project was delivered on time and within budget.
A major media conglomerate selected Composer for Lotus Notes to transition one of its business critical
applications written in Lotus Notes to the Microsoft .NET platform. The customer's Lotus Notes application
contained significant workflow and security, and would have been risky, time consuming and challenging
to rewrite. The decision to migrate using Composer enabled the media company to preserve the application's
business logic and user interface, resulting in a like-for- like migration that minimized end-user disruption.
A large multinational professional services corporation migrated two internal, complex Notes applications
using Composer for Lotus Notes. These applications and associated databases support more than 1200
revenue-generating users within the organization. Some applications included complex user interfaces
such as tabbed views of data; others included heavy collaboration with substantial business logic and workflow.
Using Composer, the applications were migrated to the Microsoft.NET platform with like-for-like business
functionality, behavior, business logic and workflow, meeting the customer’s need for minimal disruption
to the end-user community and a speedy rollout.
A major energy generation and wholesale marketing company selected Unify’s Composer for Lotus Notes solution
for a pilot project to migrate two complex Lotus Notes applications to the Microsoft platform.
The pilot migration project is allowing the customer to assess the tactical, technical and cost elements for
migrating its complete Notes application environment which consisted of several hundred Lotus Notes applications.
The customer’s current Lotus Notes environment is complex, making it very difficult to develop or enhance
existing applications to meet changing business needs. The selection of Composer for Lotus Notes for the
migration of all Notes applications is allowing the power company to consolidate software development into
a single organization that supports the various global business units.
The two applications selected for pilot migrations are used internally to track IT customer enhancement requests.
The applications allow customers to enter request details and track the impact for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
In addition, the applications contain workflow for handling the approval requirements including routing the
request through various levels of approval before they are assigned to IT.
